It Must be a Teen Thing
It must be a teen thing
Or maybe it's a me thing
Withdrawal from hip hop's got me free styling to be free
I'm itching to spit poetry like desert camels
So hard to speak the truth lately been feeling enamel
And metaphors become doors that shut way too soon
I start to close the blinds and forget what the moon looks like at night…
That's what it feels like when I don't write
I shake in my bones
I search for home within the contacts of my cellular phone
And I roam and I roam
And I write hella poems
But for some reason unspecific they get stuck in my dome
And now dome has two meanings
It used mean head and now it means head
A different kind of literal
So I imagine instead
Blowing up like the Tacoma dome
Telling the world im gonna build myself a brand new home
Im gonna be on my own
Tell them mistas, I think I missed ya…
…In-between the day I saw you for real and the first day that I kissed ya
I'm tired of looking for myself within somebody else
Now I'm embodying poems I've written before
From a different perspective
And now it helps to see my own true reflection
I used to think I could be perfect like imperfect perfection
"there once was a girl, so beautiful was she
…people always noticed she was taller than he"
So did I but I ignored it
To him I was a score
And I know that I am more
So my spirit pumps out my pores
And my neck bent to the lord
Like God what am I here for…?
You? Me? We?
The world.
I won't fall because of rejection
I will pop back up
God I need this hip hop to start back up
I wanna write with the same old ink
I wanna think and create
Inspiration with love not hate
And so I start and I start again and again
Feel free to join this high
Cuz freedom is in our pens
Rolled up in our fingers
Our ideas elevate
Get caught in the smoke
No definitions
We're free of range
The whole universe be our domain
Our slope of change IS change so
X out the Y's
We were meant to be limitless
Like infinite eyes
To see
And I
I want to free
Free like the hair on Einstein
And
Free like no money existed
And free like Private School Education was Public
And free like my story wasn't taught to me like HIStory
Chain-free wrists and balled up fists
And
Fighting for the cause
That be us the cause that be we
United to be
This poetry's got me on a high like I was air lifted
I swear that time shifted when it heard the youth were gifted
Cuz the future is now
I hope to inspire
I hope to light the path like fire
Unscarred by desire
But now I wear my scars like Obama stickers
On North West cars
And I hope you wear your scars strong too
Cuz if you live to see a scar that you know you made it through
And I hope that I can realize that in my own eyes
I can't deny the words pumpin out the roof of my mouth
Its proof that I am
And if I share the love then its proof that we are connected
And
Going to go far hand in hand in any kind of weather
Let's pray that life gets better
In sea-town that life gets better
I miss my father too
Memories locked up in his sweater
And to the ladies with absent fathers
We know that we'll do better
Blessed to realize that we rise
Too
Cuz we the future leaders
Future future breeders
Future breathers
Future believers and future BE-ERS
We're seers
The world needs us
So let's be us
Let's be change
All we can be
There is no individual
The world is WE
