Should Marijuana Be A Medical Drug

March 6, 2008 - 11:13am by mami2008

MOST PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD THINKS THAT MARIJUANA SHOULD BE A MEDICAL OPTION BECAUSE ITS SAFE/EFFECTIVE  FOR MANY DOZENS OF CONDITIONS LIKE FOR EXAMPLE:AIDS, CANCER AND GLAUCOMA ). OPPONENTS OF THE  MEDICAL OPTION OF THE  MEDICAL MARIJUANA THINKS THAT ITS DANGEROUS AND ITS HARM THE  LUNGS , IMMUNE SYSTEM, DAMAGES THE BRAIN, AND ITS SENDS THE WRONG MESSAGES TO KIDS . I MEAN IT DOES SEND THE WRONG MESSAGE BUT THE KIDS GO OUT AND SMOKE IT ANYWAYS TO GET HIGH. IM KIND OF IN BETWEEN THE THE POPONENTS AND THE OPPONENTS BECAUSE THEY BOTH HAVE GOOD ARGREEMENTS AND DISAGREEMENTS . BUT  IF THEY WANT TO MAKE A MEDICAL OPTION  THEY SHOULD GO FOR IT. IF THEY THINK THAT THE MARIJUANAN IS GONNA BE GOOD FOR PEOPLE TO TAKE AS A MEDICAL DRUG.

marijuana will be an illegal drug if people will use it in an addictive way,, but if you use it for medical reasons and in the right way,, it could be legal..

I think it is a great thing to have if you are sick and really need it and maybe it would be better to be legal so people do not get so dependent on it and obsessed since they know it is illegal. When alcohol in other states is legal the kids there are used to it and do not become overly obsessed with wanting to drink (like in the US), so maybe it would be better to have it legal although there are many negative consequences when smoking it. I am not sure it is a great question.

I think Prove hit it right on. It makes no logical sense for marijuana to be illegal when alcohol is legal. If marijuana was legalized, it could be better regulated and controlled. Then we could also educate students on safe use of the drug. However, I am divided on the issue of whether the drinking age should be lowered. It is universal that most people began drinking several years before they turned 21. However, in our teens we mostly drink at private homes and I think that being able to go out to a bar when you're still in high school might worsen the problem of drunk driving since teens would be driving to the bar/restaurant.

People should have a chioce to use something if they want to and can pay for it all by them selves.

i do not think that alcohol should be legal at 18 at all. Kids at that age are still seceptable (SPELL CHECK) to peer pressure and there body's are still not fully developed,

However there aint nothin we can do about it. if kids wanna drink, kids wanna drink.

Legalizing marijuana for the sole purpose that it helps the sick is okay. But it should be legalized for everyone because the reasons that "prove" listed above.

Prove is right when he says that alcohol is a bigger issue. People can't overdose on marijuana, but they can on alcohol. Too many deaths have occured when teens binge drink, and drive. Plus we are wasting money on keeping mary jane useres in jail.

I rather see kids relax with weed then die in car accidents, or alcohol poisoning.

However, I also believe that alcohol should be legal at eighteen because it will force parents to educate their teens on safe drinking, and will get teens to slow down at parties.

The only issue I have is people smoking in public. If we could control that then it would keep a nice, safe common ground between smokers and non-smokers. Until the city steps in and creates some better public smoking laws/guidelines for current legal smokers (cigarettes) I think most people will vote against it being legalizing.

Theres no doubt that marijuana should be legalized, not just made into a medical drug.  Marijuana prohibition only began in this country in the 1930's as a result of a mixture of racism (towards Mexicans who introduced it into this country), misinformation (did you know that in the 1930's murderers were let off on the insanity plea becasue they claimed they had smoke marijuana before the crime?), and down right lies (in 1937 a pharmacologist told the government that he had injected the active ingredient in marijiana into 300 dogs' brains and it had killed 3, but THC wasn't synthesized until nearly ten years later, so that was a lie)--before that it was seen as an infringment of the law because people weren't paying taxes on it even though they were selling it (tax evasion).  In modern days people are against marijiana use because they claim it is the gateway drug, but in my opinion its alcohol.  When I was younger i started drinking a little at my friends house--we would steal our parents booze or beer and sneak off to the park or something.  Then we started going to parties to drink and thats where i first encountered (and sampled) marijuana.  What society needs to do is create a more responsible mentality around marijuana use.  Did you know that alcohol prohibition was started because in the public opinion alcohol was a habit practiced by vagrants and the poor?  Then mentality around it changed and you began to get you so called "sophisticated" drinkers (wine, port, brandy etc.), and now we are encoraged to practice safe drinking habits like not drinking and driving.  Thats what we need to encorage in today's youth, like not losing track of school or work obligations due to its use, not spending all of your money on it, and not letting it draw you into more harmful drugs.  Plus there is the fact that marijuana users are needlessly clogging up courts and prisons with paperwork, prisoners, paper work, and they are consuming our tax dollars when we imprison them.  Did you know that there is a group of cops working with other organizations to legalize pot so they don't have to waste their time and our money by filling out paperwork to book them and hold them?  Marijuana prohibition is senseless.
