Ending World Hunger - something YOU can do!

Heifer International is the best international organization I have been introduced to yet. Do not be thrown off by it's odd name - Heifer International is a very important organization that has helped millions of people around the world. Their motto: "Ending Hunger, Caring for the Earth". The organization does a lot of different types of work spanning from issues of gender equality to microindustry to HIV/AIDS. The way I was introduced to Heifer was through a catologue that was selling farm animals. But they weren't giving the farm animals to you - the animals you bought would be sent to families living in poverty around the world to help make them more self-sustaining. They give animals like cows to poor families in Russia so they can produce their own milk, or oxen to families in Uganda to help them pull their carts and farm equipment. Even more surprising and in my opinion a VERY good idea is that they give some of these animals to families in need within the United States as well. People all around the world are suffering - by buying an animal for a family you can truly make a difference in someone's life. The animals are not too expensive. An average American family could afford to buy one for a family. My friends and I have decided to pool our resources this holiday season to buy donkeys for families in Kenya.

You are not limited to the gifting of animals either. Heifer international has many other ideas for getting people invovled to make positive changes in their world community.
