Drinking Age
I was reading Kat's blog about the drinking age and I totally agree that if the drinking age gets higher people will start acting out even more than they do now.
This summer my friends from California came up and we were having a going away party. Our family thought that it would just be a simple potluck with hot dogs and burgers, but of course the high school kids called their friends who called their friends and it turned into a wild party with a kegerator, beer pong and dancing. The sad thing is parents were there. Not really enforcing drinking, but definitely not stopping it. The parents of a 20-year-old and an 18-year-old were standing by and watching underage kids drink. If the police had come, the parents could have been arrested.
It just disturbs me to know that those parents could just stand by and watch it happen. They were even joining in with the games. My parents and i left before it went to far, but really for me it had gone far enough. I returned to the home the next morning to say goodbye to my friends and it was just a mess, I was glad that I had left when I had.
Under age drinking is one thing, but for adults to sit and let it continue is just wrong.

if the parents or guardians were there,, why didn't they do anything? it's their child and theirselves that they are not taking care of..

First of all, I'm super excited my blog sparked a little thought :)
But I think this is a very sad event. This is the reason why I think the drinking age should be lowered; it would foster more responsibility and it relates to our culture more. I have a very large hispanic family and at a lot of celebratory events, the adults drink. On occasion, some of the minors are allowed to drink, but not to the point of beer pong and "kegarators". It's a social thing.
And I think that's what drinking should be treated as- more of a social thing than a "lets get drunk and party!" thing.
Good post.
I'm with you on this one. I cant believe that the adults just stood by, some of them joining in! gah. that just goes to show how our society feels about underage drinking.
i hate it when parents fail to take responsibilty when they need to. i mean, i can see where they're coming from. no one wants to be the party pooper and everyone wants to be cool.
but when push comes to shove, safety is the number one issue and it sounds like things were getting out of control.
